My husband and I both own homes. We live in his on 7 acres. Mine is in a subdivision. I have owned it for 10 years. We were planning on fixing mine up and selling it. But we have been trying for 3 months and haven't gotten far. Our crazy work schedule and the time requirement that this house requires is keeping us from getting much done. We need to paint the entire inside and replace the trashed carpeting. This will cost about $3500 in materials if we do the labor. The payment is about $1000 a month. We use to have Wednesdays and Sundays off together. Now the only day we are both off is Sunday and it looks like he is going to be called in on most Sundays. We are also expecting our first child in December and I plan to be a stay at home mom. When I go out on short term disability we will no longer be able to afford both houses. I'm also not sure when I will have to go out. I work a very physical job. We could try to fix it up and sell it, but then we will probably not have it sold by December or whenever I go out. So I'm thinking our best option is to just let the bank have it back now rather than $7500 and 5 months later.
I'm planning to call Clark Howard to see if he has any other options. I've thought about renting it but the flooring would still need to be replaced beforehand. (I had a roommate whose little dog urinated all over the contractor grade white carpet). And that takes time and money that we don't have.
Just feeling a bit stressed over all this.
