My chicks are just over a week old, but I'm starting to think ahead about what I can feed them once they get past the 10 week mark.

We juice often, so I'm definitely going to provide them with the pulp leftovers from the juicing. This got me to thinking...are there any foods that are poisonous to chickens? I know, for instance, that avocados are poisonous to parrots. Is there anything that chickens absolutely should not be given?

Some lists are quite generous in what is included as plants poisonous for chickens. In truth, the amount that they eat makes the poison.

Some plants that are frequently listed as poisonous are some that my chickens voluntarily eat all the time with no ill effect. My chickens forage all day, so they have a wide variety of plants and such from which to choose. Mine don't eat the obviously poisonous plants such as azalea, even though there are dozens of these plants in the fenced area. When chickens have plenty of choices, they don't eat the poisonous plants.
