We currently have 3 girls, one dark and one light brahma, and a lemon cuckoo orpington. We used to have a little lavender Orpington but she became sick and passed away. Our girls are still quite young, so we did expect to lose one. We were at my parents' neighbor's house and they had a silkie and an Easter egger, and we fell in love with the silkie. We found a breeder who has silkies and EE (they're calling them Americaunas, but I am always skeptical. :)). Do you think adding these girls to the flock would be okay?

I think you'll be completely fine.

Do you have a place to quarantine the new birds for a while? You have a small flock, so it would not be a huge financial burden to lose them all, but I'm sure you'd be heartbroken. Quarantine isn't easy or fun, but it is a way to protect your flock from disease brought in with new birds.

Here's a good BYC article to read: https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/adding-to-your-flock

I was thinking of keeping them in my daughter's bathroom. We do have a dog crate we could keep them in (same breeder) so they have access to outside during the day, as I believe both are older than our current girls. I will check the link. Our vet recommended keeping them separate for 2 weeks. :)

Very good information. Thank you for sharing! I will also see if I can have my new girls looked over by our vet.
