thinking of getting ducks what are your thoughts

i want to get some colorful freindly ducks but dont know what kind to get so want are some of your favorite kinds

All kinds are my favorite kinds. Lol!

But if you are going to start out with babies and want friendly, pretty, awesome ducks get muscovies! Most people think they are ugly but I love there look, and when you own them yourself it is way different. That would be my choice. Especially for my first ducks. They are also quiet, and they will sing to you when you bring treats.

Oh, just get one of everything! If you really want a nutty variety, get a pekin, a muscovy, a runner, a welsh harlequin and a wood duck... they represent the extremes of duck breeds to me.
Actually, You could start out with all runners-they are hysterical to watch run around, and come in all different colors (they are available in a zillion types!) or all muscovys...also available in many colors... If you want super friendly...get less than 5 day old ducklings and hold them every day and give them a million treats... that generally does the trick.

My favorite duck for looks has got to be a silver appleyard... but they fly and are a little harder to come by. My dad thinks wood ducks are the best lookers.

I've had mallards that are small breed and I just got some Welsh Harlequins which are a little bigger. Both are friendly but you have to acclimate them to being friendly to humans because they are naturally scared of humans.

Mallards DO fly, Harlequins do not. Their personalities with astonish you! Until I had ducks, I did not know the enjoyment of ducks. They make me smile no matter what my mood.

Runners are awesome and do not fly. But they can be scardy cats. lol! They come in lots of different colors too!

I'm sure you will love the ducks you get no matter what breed.

Thanks for all the suggestions but i think i am going to get mandrins and wood ducks for now but eventually i will end up with alot more lol

I wouldnt start off with those breeds they arent the hardyest. And i think they are endangered too so that would mean u need a license.

Depending on where you live will dictate what permits you need. Here n FL I can have Mandarins withoutmone but need the permit for the wood ducks. They are beautiful, but not pick me up or touch me ducks. If you are wanting small, look at call ducks. Small stature, many colors, very friendly and love to talk.
