Thinking of getting some ducks... I have a question...

Hello.. I have had ducks in the past but mostly raised babies then released to a pond when grown.. If I get more I am planning on having a two foot high fence with a hot wire on top for their yard.. and going to build a dog house type of sleeping quarters for the night.. my question is.. will they go into this at night on their own or will I have to chase them down and put them in myself..? It will be built so as to lock them in at night for safety...

A secure covered run is best. 10X10X6 dog run with a dog house works. With a cover.

Thanks... was planning on Cayuga... they don’t fly.. correct? I had one a few years ago that I kept in a two foot high dog pen.. he never got out..

Well they can get air over two feet high.

You can train them to go in the house at night. Once it is the routine they will continue.

Works best if you use the night time feeding, then lock then in.

I don't train with treats. I herd my birds with a long stick and say bedtime. Now they just come and go in when I say it..
