Thinking of moving out of California- but to where?

Hi all! I currently live in north California, and am thinking about moving out of the state. Has anybody recently moved to a new state? What were your deciding factors? I want to make sure I'm as through as possible in my decision making. Id like to move somewhere where I can have a few acres for some chickens and other misc animals, and start a garden. Current states I'm looking at are Idaho, Nevada, and Colorado. I also have Texas, Tennessee and N. Carolina on my list, but I know they have hurricanes and tornadoes and I don't think i could deal with that lol.
