well everyone hates the mess the chickens make.so im thinking of quiting.they really hate that they bring in chicken snakes.an they do make 1 heck of a mess.so i really dont know what ill do.

Who is everyone?????

If you enjoy them, keep them.

If you think they are too much trouble, too messy...etc., then maybe you should really think about why you have them.
Are they for eggs, meat, or just for pets?

I feel like if you enjoy chickens, then the work that it takes to care for & clean up after them is not a big deal.
If you don't enjoy them, it becomes work to you & you won't take as good of care as you would if you enjoyed them.

Only you can make this desision, I don't think anybody here will think bad of you if you decide not to keep them.
Some people enjoy them more when when they live somewhere else. I have people that come here just to look at the chickens, pet them, & watch them. They don't want chickens, they just enjoy seeing them. (And I get help at feeding time, too.)

Do what is best for you, not everyone else.

That's too bad. When you say they are too messy, is it because you have so many or that they run loose in your yard and poo where people walk? Maybe you could just cut down on the number or pen them, if that's the problem. Snakes, well, if you live with somebody that's afraid of snakes, that's a tough one. I hope it works out for you.

wynedot55 We have had chickens for going on two years now They were my DH idea. He worked nights then so he took care of them All I had to do was pick up the eggs in the evening and throw them some scratch. Well he changed jobs and now works days. I have to take care of the chickens and goats and geese and horse. But it has changed me I didn't want the animals at first because of the mess but now I'm the one who takes care of everyone and I like it. Its hard sometimes and nothing is messier than geese or ducks but I have come to love my little farm Maybe its too much for you Did you bite off more than you can chew. Take a step bck and see iif yu scaled down some would it be better. As far as chicken snakes go I live on 9 acres attached to a wildlife area . We have a gully that attracts all kinds of wildlife as it runs through the management area. I have not seen one snake near the coop in the time we have had chickens. If you keep it ckean and no food outside to attract them they will not be a problem. We feed indoors and the coop is locked up tight at night so we don't have a problem wiith snakes. Micki

my mom because they stay out.an they love to get in the garage an poop as well as poop on concrete.i keep them for eggs.an for something to mess with.

the mess doent bother me.as long as i dont step in it to much.now the turkeys can make 1 heck of a mess.their poop is real runny.ill just stay with the chickens even tho mom gripes .i love having them around.they are alot of fun.

Sounds like maybe you should keep them in a nice big pen so they would be out of the garage and other areas that are a problem. Keep just enough to produce the number of eggs you want.

I have had my birds for over a year now, and coul not imagine being without them! My birds free range, and yes they do get into places I dont want them to, and yes they poop on things, but a wash down with a garden hose fixes all!
