Thinking of trying an experiment.

I'm sorting this year's white Chantecler cockrels tomorrow, and plan to keep one. We'll see. The Chantie x Sussex birds are all leaving, as they don't fit in my plans here. Some of the bantams are also leaving, and with fewer cockrels, life will be less tense out there. Mary

Mary, sorry your weather was so nasty. Hoping for a better day next time.

On our way home to see how the chickens fared while we were gone. Kept hens and pullets locked in one coop/run and cockerels in another while we were gone for the wedding. We left on Thursday. Both coops had 7 gal. waterers, large galvanized tube feeders and plenty of shade. But there has been no human or dog activity around the place for 3 nights. We'll see what we find, I guess.

Well, hens and pullets are all still alive. They were very happy to be let out to free range when we got home. Haven't checked cockerels yet. They are all outside, and there is so much Marsh Elder growing in their run (Great shade, cover and leafy greens for them!) I can't even see them in there. I will count later on today when they're on the roosts.
