Two days ago we had our first egg. We had 1 egg each of the past two days, then today I opened the henhouse and saw this welcome sight.
This poulet is the same one I found having just laid an egg yesterday. When I went into the henhouse yesterday the egg was out in front of the feed sacks and she was rolling it towards herself.
The hens are ignoring the laying boxes we made for them, in spite of us putting a golf ball in each one. You can see the edge of one nest along the left edge of the picture. Instead they're sharing a nest one of the hens made between the feed sacks. Since the eggs are in a secure spot, we're not going to fight the hens, but will just let them keep laying the eggs there.
The larger and darker egg is the one this poulet had just laid. We could tell because it was the warmest.
