Ducks are clumsy. They trip, they fall into holes. The ducklings trip over their own feet. When they get turned turtle, they can get back up, but they will thrash around. They all do it.

So, they don't have to be inside at night, but their night housing is even more secure. No ducky snacks for the local Great Horned Owl.
