I ordered 15 chickens from Ideal that are supposed to be delivered on March 24th. We don't even have the coop built yet but I am already eyeing hatching eggs and incubators. Hmmmmm..... Maybe next year........

You don't need the coop until the end of April. They stay in the brooder box for 4-6 weeks. You can use cardboard box as brooder box.

Ut oh...this is the wrong, wrong, wrong place to post that thought. From what I can see everyone around here will "egg" you on to get the hatching eggs also. Then they will give you tips on a BIGGER coop so you can buy MORE chicks.... really....run before someone replies to your post....hurry...

Welcome!

Really, I'm expecting 4 chicks in late March like you and have no interest in incubating my own, ever... I'm hoping all 4 of my hens survive. I understand expecting 50% of a batch of eggs to make it to maturity is not good odds... Of course, to each their own! Good luck and hope you find all the research you need here. These folks have been most helpful.
