This Coop is Turning into a Behemoth! **UPDATED pics on pg7**

Thanks everyone.

The separator is permanent although I'm considering cutting a large hinged door in it so they can go back and forth without going into the coop. As it is right now they can access either run from inside the coop. The coop is designed to be separated in half on the inside too if I ever have the need. I like the idea of being able to separate chickens by breed, size, and/or age if necessary. I also plan on adding a couple breeder pins to the ends this fall. Right now I have 12 chickens. I built the coop large enough to at least double that capacity.

Very Nice!

The runs are pretty basic. The posts are 8 foot pressure treated 4x4's buried 18 - 24". The framing is pressure treated 2x4's. If I had to do it over (which I might since I used 2x4's) I would use 4x4's for the entire construction or place posts every 4 feet. I'm afraid gravity is going to take it's toll on the 2x4's. My only hope is that the welded wire will help support them. The top of the frame is a doubled 2x4. I used 72" welded wire for the bottom portion of the run. The extra length is left at the bottom as an apron. I chose to bury the apron a few inches since this area is fairly shaded and grass doesn't grow thick enough to anchor it. I used 48" welded wire around the upper portion and just bent the excess over the top. The roof of the run is 48" welded wire and the 2x4's over the top are in place to help support the welded wire and give me something to staple it to. The run ramp is made from two 8 ft 1x6's. I wrapped them in chicken wire for extra traction and cut 1x2 treads. I screwed pressure treated 2x4 braces on the underside of the ramp to add support and cover the jagged ends of the chicken wire. They are attached with hinges so they can be lifted out of the way to clean the run. The run doors are basic doors made with 2x4's with welded wire stapled to it. I then used 1x4's to trim out the door and sandwich the welded wire. The hinges are spring hinges so they close automaticly. If you have more specific questions I'd be glad to elaborate.
