this thread here: Apparently this person's friend's chicken made an egg that has violet inside... anyone have any idea what it might be caused by?

To me it looks like a marker pen has been used to mark the egg for hatching and the ink has been drawn through the shell, perhaps as a result of climatic conditions. The egg is clearly not fresh. I would be asking if the person who supplied the egg, sets eggs under broodies in communal nests and marks the hatching eggs with a marker. To me the fact that there is an obvious circle of dye which is a standard way to mark hatching eggs, is telling. It would be interesting to see the outside of the shell where the colour is. It looks like the shell has been broken and the coloured half put inside the other, so you can't see the external surface of the marked half.

these apparently were collected daily and were not hatching eggs but rather eating eggs I believe he said... he even said that he was the one that helped the suppler set herself up with chickens so I am sure he is familar with their source. Definitely no ink used though for the egg :\
