Yeah we got them to be with our lonely bantam who was trying to get over the trauma of a terrible hawk attack. I hope they like it here.Yesthat’s exactly why I was like girls how did you get in and out of there.

Wonder if it just dropped out while she was perched there? Luckily, not broken. I nearly stepped on an misplaced egg the other day in their yard. I'll find random ones out there, and could be their favorite box most of them use may have been occupied when the urge happens. I had tried to disrupt a broody by taking that milk crate box out, and later found 3 eggs laid on the shelf it had been on. I have 11 14 mo. old hens, and 7 nesting boxes, of which they use 2-3.Yesthat’s exactly why I was like girls how did you get in and out of there.

So far odd places for me are next to water, in the food, and like you say in walk ways about to be crushed. Lol. I have 3 brown buff Orpingtons 3 amber links and 3 Either black orpingtons or pullets. Not sure on them. Made a post on the breed forum to see what others think! They’re about 20ish weeks! I am not sure whose laying eggs yet but some girls have for about 3 weeks now. They are my daily entertainmentDid your girls just start laying? I used to have a daily Easter egg hunt when mine were beginning layers. I finally put golf balls in the boxes. The dusty one I found the other day was near their dusting holes. I suspect she was comfy in the hole and laid it there, and someone else came along and kicked it out when they were dusting. No game cam, so I'll never know. How many do you have, and their ages? Your coop/run setup? Do you want to not have egg hunts when the weather turns?
Oh my haha. They’re so cute. You never know about Chickens and where they may choose to lay an egg! Mine laid inside a sack of wood chips one time! You just gotta love them!

She did it againOh, the fun is just beginning! Lots of tips and tricks here on the forum. We've had daytime predators show up, so when I let them out, I am out there with them. My yard, garden and surrounding woods is only about .6 acres. They usually wander up to the wood's edge ( my garden is fenced off, originally from grazing wildlife, and now also from THEM), and they also make it over to my neighbor's, which they don't mind. Their favorite treat container I'll shake when I want them to come back, though sometimes a couple won't respond quickly when they have tunnel vision and are farther away or can't me. I'll then throw a handful inside the gate, and when they are all inside, close it. Have fun coming up with your own strategies for life management with the girls.
