This is just - I lack the words.....

This is what I have been saying for months. If the independent truckers have to shut down, because of fuel costs and other "dues", then where does the Midwest think they are going to get their food? I am guessing, but I bet over 90% of what we buy at the store is trucked in by either semi's or trains . . .without these people we are doomed. This depression we are in didn't just "start" it has been trickling down the tubes since the Reagan era, and I am not being political. BUT, one thing we have to remember people. We have been thru this before, and we will go thru it again (not in MY lifetime, this is quite enough) and we will survive, but for now, STOCK up on dry goods, foods, non-perishables and get a good garden planned. Even if you don't can or freeze, you can still grow enough produce to see you thru at least 5 months of the year. We aren't made of the same stock our parents and grandparents were, who did go thru the great depression, but we can if we try. I just told someone the other day that if they start asking us to save our toothpaste tubes, I know we are in big trouble.

Mahonri, I agree with you. Just be clear that there is plenty of blame to go around. It is not a partisan problem, it is a cultural one as in the culture of DC and Wall Street has become too toxic to the rest of the country. Neither party can solve this. There needs to be a sweeping change that the tea party cannot manage since they've been co-opted.

I think we are going to have to face a serious shake up to change this. There are too many people invested in keeping the status quo.

Yet another good reason to stock up on the good cold meds (the ones behind the counter) I heard on the radio this AM that there is a movement afoot (wasn't paying enough attention, but I think they were referring to at the state level) to require prescriptions for that stuff!

Not sure about others, but my Dr won't give an scripts without an appointment - SO, the price of those simple over the counter meds just skyrocketed if this goes through *sigh*

I'm growing a big garden and am stocking up too. This is not even close to being over anytime soon I don't believe and food prices are surging now. I'm prepping for it

If you have a healthy blood level of vitamin D in your body, you wont need a stock of cold medicine. I have stuff for cuts (antibiotic ointment, alcohol, peroxide, etc...), ace bandages for sprains, dental supplies (brushes, fluoride-free tooth paste, clove oil emergency kit, dental picks), and ibuprophen and asprin (and white willow bark) for pain and fever AND vials of liquid vitamin D (Carlson's brand 5000 IU/drop).
