A mix of girls is nice to have in all the colors. The black is what helps to keep the blue colors strong and not washing out when breeding and hatching future eggs.
With a black roo covering all 3 colors of hens you would get such a nice mix of colored chicks from hatching eggs.
Blue x Blue - 50% Blue 25% Black 25% splash
Black x Blue - 50% Black 50% Blue
Black x Splash - 100% Blue
Blue x Splash - 50% Blue 50% Splash
Splash x Splash - 100% Splash
I have a blue cockeral, a splash cockeral and a black cockeral I am growing out to keep. They each will have at least one of each colored hen as a trio but hopefully more if all my little chicks continue to develop nicely.
Right now (aside from Bonnie Blue who is in with Mosby my blue cockeral) I have 3 blue, 1 black and 1 splash pullets growing out from one hatch. 1 blue, 1 black and 1 splash pullet from another hatch and the last batch I have no clue yet what they will end up being as far as pullet to cockeral ratio. I am hoping there will be more than enough girls to share with the cockerals.
The males are so pretty and big I couldn't pick just one to keep. My husband has to finish one last pen for a trio+ and I'll have them all sorted and ready by fall.
Your black is very nice. Please continue to post photos as he matures.
