This has been a big news story around here. As you can imagine, in a small town where everyone knows pretty much every one else, we don't hear stuff like this very often. Even when the victim has moved away to go to school.

Body found and identified

Then, we find out most of what happened.

You've got to be kidding me!

Now, I did not know her very well, and did not go to the wake or the funeral. I would have been very out of place there. BUT: I did know her from subbing and she was always one of my favorite students. She would always slyly try to get out of doing homework, though not in a bad way. She was very vivacious and just very likable. To add to matters, she was my neighbor's eldest daughter's good friend.

Everyone is just shocked at how senseless this is. And how someone who stabbed a person that many times could get a second degree murder charge. I just feel like there's so many things that could have been done to keep this from happening. I'm praying for peace for her family, friends, and community. Oh, and the fact that she evidently wasn't dead when she was pushed out of the car scares me too. How long did she lay in the ditch before she died?

There is a reason I stopped getting the news, whether in some sort of print form or on the tv or radio. I just hated always seeing bad news. It seems the good stuff just isn't news anymore. I know it's out there, but it doesn't get the ratings, I guess.

I quit watching the news for awhile..turned it on the other day and heard a horror story of a 3 yo little boy...turned off the news and cried...What has this world come to? ...and how can I be in a million places at one time to protect my ever expanding family? I cant and its not fair cause its my job..to protect the ones I Love! Darn it now I am crying for this beautiful young ladies family! Such a shame her life was cut shortall because of some one elses temper!

The part that bothers me is "if convicted he can face up tp 40 years in prison" What?

This is a terrible story. What always surprises me is that these things happen & no one ever links the events to domestic violence. You cannot tell me that this was not the result of the boyfriend's desire to exert power & control over this girl! It sounds like she left to make a life for herself and he could not accept that.

So sad.....

I am sorry for your community's loss. She sounds like she was a girl just starting out with a lot of potential. Too bad for all involved. Tragic for her family.

omg! How could someone stab someone that many times? Did he do it over a period of fighting with her or all at once? They say he could get up to 40 years??? Are you kidding me??!! Maybe 40x109!

I hate criminals and controlling people! I wonder if the punk went to his moms and acted cool or if he told her what her sweet baby did the night before? I hope he ends up with life!

Well, the thought among family and friends is that Katie was trying to break up with they guy. What many people cannot understand is how stabbing a person 109 times can EVER be second degree murder. I mean, his arm must have gotten tired, and he would have taken a little rest at some time right? There was domestic violence involved and she had a no contact order against him. But then again, a piece of paper means nothing. She met him in town here, something about he is the father of a friend's child or something like that. I'm not entirely sure, I didn't quite understand that part. Many people are in shock. It's just all senseless.

My neighbor's daughter is coming home for winter break next week. I'm wondering if she can maybe watch my daughter for a day so I can do some Christmas shopping. It will make it so the time won't sit so heavy on her hands right away. That and she and my daughter get along famously. She was home for the funeral and then went back to school (2 hours away) and then is coming home again this weekend for a baptism, goes back, takes finals, and then comes home again on Tuesday, I believe. I'll be available to her if she needs someone, while her parents are working and all that good stuff.
