You could try putting a few strands of electric fence around your yard to keep him out...Out touch and I bet he wont go near it again!!

hhmmm...thats not a bad Idea! but I would be concerned about the kids getting shocked. It is strange how are houses are placed and our front yard (not much of one) faces the side of their house. My husband suggested we find and buy a kennel for them and give it to them, it was an honest thought but we can afford to supply our neighbors with a place for their dog. The dog stays on a lead most of the time and he is always breaking it or his collar. We are talking a big dog here, full of muscle and about 100 lbs mix of I don't know what but big.

How old are your kids? Old enough to be told not to touch the fence or it will hurt? If so, then put up the fence and tell them that. Of course, they will probably try it anyway (my kids did - we live on a farm, they grew up around them so it's not like they didn't know....) and they learned to respect the fence. If they're too little to understand, then turn the fence off when they're outside playing and turn it back on when they come in. And at night. And when you leave. You should not have to supply your neighbors a kennel for their dog. They should keep it out of your yard!

Fence chargers come in a variety of strength. For cattle down to rabbits. You don't need a strong one, just get a mild one so the children will not get hurt. They still get a zap, but they will not run and scream bloody murder.

While I think the idea of an electric fence, or just a hot wire is a good one, go cautiously where children are concerned. Our neighbors put up a hot wire along the top of their fence as their dog (now deceased of old age) was an escape artist, and would climb over a seven foot fence and come over to see us. We didn't complain to them as Griffey was a good boy and never bothered anyone. He never barked at or menaced us or our dogs in any way. He just got bored and wanted a change of scenery. A few weeks before he died, he came over for a last visit, and never bothered the chickens in any way. Anyway, about the hot wire. The neighborhood was informed about the wire, and the kids were all warned, but one girl actually was a daredevil and laid her arm across it. She screamed and flopped around, and her parents took her to the ER and wanted our neighbors to pay for that visit, though nothing was wrong with the girl that a good swat on the behind wouldn't cure, and the city got involved and told them the wire needed to come down. My point is, go cautiously, and let people know before you try it so that no-one is injured and you don't spend unnecessarily.

If you put up an electric fence, besides warning surrounding neighbors, get those little yellow/black fence warning signs...Then if anyone does complain, you can say you told everyone, and there are signs...Not much they can do about it then.
And the concept of touching it once and not touching it again will go for kids too I bet

(meaning your own kids if they dont listen about not touching it) Just get one of the lower voltage chargers - I use a solar one that is meant for 10 acres. It was only covering about 5 and it gave a good zap, but not enough to leave a mark or really hurt, but it worked great to scare the animals...Just a thought.

I would definitely NOT buy them a kennel...Chances are, they would just say screw you, we dont need your help, and let them out on purpose.
Sounds aweful, but the way I look at it (we live on a good sized highway where everyone always goes 20-30 over the speedlimit) - maybe if their animal doesnt come home one day, they will get the hint! Same goes for kids...our neighbors are aweful about letting their animals loose, but their kids play in the middle of our highway...on a bad corner, where who knows how many accidents have happened, and animals have been killed.

Anyway, let us know what you end up doing! You need to get it fixed now before it REALLY turns into a problem!
