When my younger flock goes to roost at night, one of my 6 week old chicks "Cash" roost right next to his dad "Impy". Impy is fine with it. However, the last few days the two other chicks, TJ and Rowdy, try to roost next to Impy and Impy has a big ol' hissy fit. He knocks them down and they end up roosting somewhere else.

Isn't it weird that he would allow another cockerel to sleep next to him, but not the other two?

One of these days I'm going to figure out roosters!

I had an older roo 'mentor' a young cockerel a few years ago. When big roo found a bug, he called little roo and shared it. Little roo followed everywhere like a shadow. They weren't related at all, and had not been raised even remotely together. As soon as sexual maturity hit, though, the cockerel learned that he no longer had any weight lying with the older.

Yeah, been trying to figure out a bachelor pad for my baby roos once maturity hits.
