I'm reading and reading and wish I had more time - every thread I learn so much! Love the pictures, as well, it's giving me lots of ideas for what to do, and it's fun to see all the beautiful birds out there!

Also wanted to share that I'm getting 8 Rhode Island Reds tomorrow, they are early 2009 vintage and already lay, so I can get eggs for my health food store right away!

Here's how it's going to go down.

Research on BYC.

Getting your first chickens.

Read and read on BYC. Find other breeds you like.

Get more chickens of a different breed(s).

Buy an incubator.

Buy hatching eggs.

Hatch out chicks from eggs

Start hatching your own eggs

Build a bigger coop

Have so many eggs you don't know what to do w/ all them.

You have been warned! Chickens are an addiction.

This site rocks!! It's how I got started and gathered all my information. I learned so much and now have a small healthy, happy backyard flock.

And don't get discouraged about hearing about all the chicken ailments. I went for a couple of months and acquired an extensive chicken first aid kit, and didn't use it until a year and a half into the great adventure.
