This might be a silly question, but... If you breed a banty to a standard sized chicken do you have offspring that are likely to be bantam, standard, or somewhere in between? I'm sure this is genetics 101, but I'm really curious.

Not a silly question at all. I was wondering the same thing. I also want to add, do the size of the eggs change? Now that may be a silly question

I had a Standard sized roo that was a BR X RIR breed a bantam hen that was a Silkie X Brahma ( I think) and I hatched 3 chicks from them and my aunt has one of the hens and she is about the same size as the standard RIR and Dominique hens she has with her. I think the egg size as about the same as the Dominiques egg too.

but it may be different when the dad is a bantam, IDK ????

You'll end up with in-between sized birds. The female offspring will lay eggs appropriate for their size- I would think. Mating a banty roo with a standard hen will not change the size of eggs layed by that hen.

I have heard on occasion of hatching problems when you use a standard roo over a banty hen. The chicks can become too big for the shell, making it hard to get out at hatch time.

I hope that doesn't happen. The eggs I am considering putting in the incubator are from my LF Easter Egger Roo and my bantam Wyandotte/Cochin hen.​

I wouldn't worry about it too much- just pay close attention after you go into lockdown. If your EE is the same size as my ameracauna- they aren't "huge" birds. I wouldn't however, use an LF cochin roo over my banty cochin hen because she lays itty bitty eggs.

I had a bantam cochin Roo that 'visited' my standard welsummers hens. I ended up with 3 Bantam girls. They are bantams, not in between size. They live with my pet bantam cochins. The 'Pretties' will be 4 years old this year.

The 3 Pretties are the buff/partridge looking girls.

Could you please post a pic of you bantam Cochin X Wyandotte, I've been want some birds of that cross. Is she kind like a cochin with feathered legs, but with a rose comb ?

She has feathered feet (but not as well feathered as my bantam cochin) and she has a rose comb too. Her eggs are also whiter than my cochins.
