I can usually tell what gender my chicks are (gotten pretty good over the years

) but this one is driving me crazy! I "confirmed" this one has a male ever since it was two months old. Now, I'm second guessing myself.

It is 5 months old, some sort of game mix, and has green legs. It was also hatched from a green egg. As you can see its saddle feathers aren't pointed, and its tail feathers are round. Compared to it's *for sure* brother's (who are barred rocks) squawky clucks and chirps, it has a very light cluck and chirp like that of a female.

Any guesses? I've never had game birds (other than Old english games) so I really have no idea how the females "grow out".

Thanks!

Boy. I have a boy who has COMPLETELY rounded tail feathers, crowed the other day! Like, wth dude! He's like 18 weeks, too,

Eta ;;
Oh he's 5 months? What age did he get a comb? Looks VERY rooster like, less so for a 5 month old though

He had a teeny tiny comb as a chick, then all of a sudden sprouted the one it has now about a week ago. I'm so stumped.

Oh wow. Uhmm.. If I didn't know age I would say 100% cockerel for sure. No doubt..

The colours are very male.

But I don't see any pointed saddles or hackles - okay.. so it could have the henny feather gene.. But I look at the comb.. That's small for 5 months for a boy.. And again look at the colour of the feathers..

You are indeed sure on the age right?

5 months is 20 weeks...

If I had to guess, this bird looks closer to 12-14 weeks old. But if you hatched it yourself, I trust you.

He is a cockerel. Some signs of this are his large comb and wattles and thick legs, as well as his coloring.

Probably a boy.
Shoot, well that's my rotten luck. One girl out of four chicks. <sigh>
I think it's a cockerel...

(Hi, Jenae!)
Oh well.

Yep, 20 weeks old. Just checked the calendar to be sure. Well, I guess I'll wait on this one, just to be sure. The others are going to freezer camp.

Thanks for your input. I think it is unanimous.
