This person chased my CHICKENS!!

He was over the property line and he chased the chickens out of our property

Well if this is the case call the village and asked them why their contracted lawn car company is trespassing on your property and mowing your property, as well as harassing your livestock... Beware thought that if it's an easement as many front or back property lines are they very well could have rights to trespass and mow, especially if it's not maintained...

I would call the city and let them know what happened. Not good PR to have staff doing that and it was dangerous for him to do that with the mower, liability issues and all that jazz.

I'm sorry that it happened to your poor chickens. Thankfully, they weren't injured.

it is well maintained, but I jut found out the city is actually thinking about an ordinance on chickens having to be contained in a fenced in area in a fenced in yard! so If bring attention to the city, things may get worse...

A fenced in yard is not a bad thing. A large fenced in area for your hens inside that yard is also not a bad thing. My entire house is surrounded by fence... The neighborhood toddlers LOVE to watch the hens when they are in the front yard or along the alley fence.

You should contact the village and have that grass mower fired before he hurts someone.

Protect your hens.

Appears St. Charles, already has such an ordinance at least in theory that states that any animal has to be contained to the 'premises' unless restrained... Not technically a fence law, but pretty much the same... So if your chickens are free ranging and stepping off your yard, I would caution against rocking the boat as it might start costing you $50 tickets...

yeah, well I was supervising them, and they were in our bushes, until the guy scared them out. also this is the most commonly broken law, as there are always dogs and cats(with name tags) in our yard visiting our chickens unsupervised. and also I said the city is developing a Law so that Chickens(specifically chickens) have to be fenced in so no one can see them. And also the one hen who was chased the farthest(Myrtle May) is limping so bad that she is in the garage tonight. And I wasn't the one who chased the chickens into the field, he did. also they never even stepped foot into the field until today since it is all open and there are no trees for them to seek cover which commonly do. so this law was broken but not by me.

Sounds like you were not in violation of the "law". If they mandate fences... You have to get a fence anyway.

Turn in that mower boy from heck! He's dangerous and shouldn't be on the... Grass.

My brother lives in Batavia where they have strange rules about coops. You'd think that way out there in what used to be the country, chickens would be easy. I live in Chicago... Pretty much anything goes unless you don't get along with your neighbors!

yeah, we have a friend in Batavia with chickens and she is always fighting the city. but downers grove was worse, the coop had to be far from the border line so only a few properties qualified
