The first person at least wanted to be practical and helpful. The others were just trying to make themselves feel superior. They had no interest in helping me find a real solution. This was my first try at this forum and will probably be my last.

I have a chicke to treat. i don't have time to inflate egos.

hi you can find the Potissum permanganate at stores that deal with Koi fish. reason I know this is because I raise Koi fish. my dealer sells the pp as we call it. we clean plants in it. if you would like I can give you his number and you can tell him Lynnette sent you for the PP. and he will ship it to you. that said are you certain this pp is safe for birds? I just can't imagine anything injesting pp inside them. but if you have done your research and feel its safe just pm me and I'll give you his number and he can get the pp for you and ship to your address. let me know if you want to do that please. best wishes.

Thanks,

I have tried the pet stores in town.
I have found from several sources that it is an old farmers trick to give that in a thin solution as a cure all for chickens, and from other sources that (in the right dose) it would do no harm. It would have to be something like a medical grade.

I want to buy it locally because I want to have it in my hand without delays in shipping.

For future reference DE does not work as a internal de-wormer. It is great for a natural product on external bugs but I would not assume it is helping on the internal ones.

I have not had experience deworming so I don't have a recommendation. Do you know what kind of parasites you have? That might help.

I dip them in DE on a regular basis to keep mites at bay. How effective it is for worms would depend on how much they ingest while preening . It is the only choice I have been able to find that is organic, and does not spoil the eggs.

I don't own a lab, so the best I can say is that her posture and behavior clearly says she is sick. She has diarrhea that is NOT bloody.

If by two water bottles you mean antibiotic in one and other stuff in the other, I would say no way. Antibiotics are crucial to be given for a set amount of time at a set dose. While trying to go organic is wonderful, if using conventional methods you must follow directions so you don't create a bigger problem. Giving her the option to drink water other than her antibiotic water will mean she is not getting the dose she needs and that is what will create antibiotic resistance. It is terribly easy to underdose antibiotics but difficult to overdose.

Organic is wonderful, but when it comes to the health of the animal sometimes it is better to just use wormers designed to efficiently remove parasites particularly when there is a known problem. You can choose to be organic and hope herbal/natural type stuff helps but the animal can't make those decisions and if they are having a lower quality of life to satisfy our drive to be green while we wait to see if its working, then who is actually benefiting? Not the animal.

It can be hard to make a medical/nutritional decision when we want to stay organic and natural, but I personally do whatever it takes to make the animal comfortable and if that means something isn't going to be organic but I know it will work and make her more comfortable quickly then that is fine with me. Hope that makes sense...
