I had a coon attack over 2 weeks ago. It was a very secure coop/run before that, but now its even better.
I do "border patrol" twice a day. I have 1/2" hardward cloth over all the windows, plus I've screwed in long narrow pieces of wood on all 4 sides of each window over the hardware cloth. There are a couple that only had 1 screw in the middle. They seemed secure enough.
This morning during my border patrol, I found that one of the wood pieces on the window was turned sideways. There were scratch marks on it too.
That coon must have dropped from a big pine tree, down onto the tarp awning on the non-run side of the coop and tried to get into the window that way.
Needless to say, I'll add more screws to those pieces of wood.
When I saw that, I was reminded of the movie "Signs" when they started hearing the aliens trying to get into the house.
The window they tried to get in is right in front of the top of the roost. I wonder if the girls slept through it? I almost hope so, since they don't need anymore stress.
I'm still considering the razor wire you see on the top of fences at prisons!
You just can't be cautious enough with these coons!

rofl I thought of that also. A couple runs of regular hot wire does wonders though.

SO glad your girls are alright. My girls have been 'off' since a dog attack. Way too much stress. A friend recommended nutri-drench. She uses it for her goats. They have a formula for chickens, horses etc. It is very reasonably priced and instead of mixing it in their water I gave them a direct dose of 1 drop in beak per bird. They did seem a little more perky and interested in scratching and keeping busy and not roosting all day. Good luck and don't let your guard down.
