I had another visit today from Mr. Mink. I had just let my hens out & at once they sent out the alarm. Well here I was in my housecoat chasing a mink with an old mop. I had to stay out until my neighbour came with his shotgun. By this time he had disappeared.

Thankfully, my girls are all safe. I live on the salt water & these pest swim along the shore. This is the first visit since last year, but I got a feeling this one is coming back.

I spent 3 hours outside today, I guess tomorrow will be the same, until my hubby can either shoot or capture this one.

Just venting!

We don't have skunks or raccons, but we do have a mink farm about 15miles away, that I told some escape from time to time. This fellow wasn't afraid of me until I started to chase him! Probally a farm one.

We have quite a few mink "ranches" near us, and it's quite rare that any mink are able to escape. When they do, it's even rarer that they survive for more than a day or so. They are completely unable to survive in the wild, and often are run over by cars. An animal rights group released nearly 10,000 mink from a ranch about 50 miles away from us. They were able to capture most of them, and the rest were run over or starved to death fairly quickly. They finally did catch the perpetrators several years later, and they got a slap on the wrist.

If you can find out what the mink farm feeds them it is normally the best bait to catch them with the few mink I have trapped fish has always worked for me but I almost live at the coast

I have a small population of minks because I live near a dam. I found a mother teaching her 3 babies how to hunt in my poultry yard before I got the fencing finished. Fortunately, none of my poultry were in the yard when it happened. Your post cracked me up because the day I found the mink in my yard I was dressed up to go to a wedding. I was wearing a dress and heels, and trying to beat the minks to death with a large stick I grabbed off the ground. Thankfully, none of my neighbors were around to see this ridiculous sight. They already fear for my sanity.

I got the mental picture and it was wonderful. Wish someone had recorded it. That $10,000.00 prize money on funniest videos could've bought a LOT of chickens.
