I have a hen who is constantly broody (3 times since Easter). I gave her some eggs and I have moved her to a new pen with a dog house in it for her. It has a pan filled with bedding from the main coop and what was in her nesting box and it is in the dog house. I placed her eggs in it towards the back and then put her water on a platform and then her food in there as well. I placed her in the pen and she escaped and managed to squeeze her way back into the coop.
So now I've placed her in the dog house and covered up the opening (she still has breathing slats for breeding).
How long would you keep her "locked" up in the dog house, it's decently cool out 77 degrees currently. I moved her because someone was eating her fertile eggs (which I had to pay for).
On average how long does it take to train them to stay in that spot on those eggs? I've had 5 broodies since right before Easter and none of them successfully hatched their own eggs or kept their chicks alive.
Any advice will be appreciated.
