Those of you who have these cuddly, indoor ducks....

My Swedish\\Rouen X drake Vic (was Victoria when we got them as we thought he was a girl!) was my cuddle bug...I could hold him for ever and he never tried to get away, where as my female swedish Henry (same as above only opposite!) was not as easy to snag up and cuddle! My poor Vic was killed early this summer when he was about 8 or 9 weeks old and poor Henry was beside herself and could not stand to be out of view of me...even with other people outside etc... and became very cuddly, where I could hold her and pet her and nuzzle her cozy feathers! I bought a Welsh Harlequin drake (fast Eddy) a week later so she would have a "mate" and would not be so heartbroken...and he is pretty skiddish as he had never been held in his 14 months of life and soon, Henry followed suit! So I am back to "force" cuddeling them by snatching them up once and a while when I let them out of thier house. Eddy is actually easier to hold...I sit him with his back to my chest and tuck his tail under so he looks like he is reclined and he will press his cheek against mine...Henry squirms practically the whole time! Oh well, I will take what I can get I suppose! Good Luck!
This is Vic when he was a few weeks old

I rescued a muscovy duckling a few weeks ago. She was 3 weeks old and raised indoors, could not stand to be out of my sight from the first day I brought her home. But 1 of the dogs decided she did NOT like that duck in the house so Stinky moved outside with the older ducks. She picked on them at first but they tolerate her well. She's been outside for all of 4 days and now is terrified of me, won't come up and peeps like there is no tomorrow if I force it. I was worried that she may not know how to be a duck after 4 weeks with people but it hasn't been a problem.

With Peepers it wasnt really by choice. Her buddy was killed at a week old by a dog

So she was all alone and became my buddy that went everywhere with me. I decided to make Nibbly and indoor duck so that Peepers would have a ducky friend to hang out with during the times that they cant go with me. To make them as human friendly as possible you keep them in their own brooder with a mirror and a stuffed animal and keep take them with you all the time.
