Many of us city folks use rabbits in plastic or glass fish tanks, so its no difference than in cages that we normally used.

My friend whose been doing rabbits for 5 yrs now has worked it out with a tanner. The tanner takes 1/2 the pelts and he gets furs. It seems like a good deal. Doing the work myself seems like a heck of a lot of work. I'd check with tanners in your area and see if you can get a deal. The young furs are good enough for stuffed toys and personal clothes. I don't see much in quality resale though.

Here are my girls today in their new to them big cage...

I scored three wire rabbit cages for free from Craigslist last night and they will certainly do until I can either make some new ones or buy some in a couple of months. They aren't the greatest but they are all functional and good sized. I picked the best of the bunch. I scrubbed them all down this morning with a dilute bleach solution and rinsed really well. The person getting rid of them said they were with the house when he bought it and they hadn't been used in over 6 years.

And no they aren't staying on the concrete lol I'm building a stand for the cages after lunch.

nice rabbits. they look like a couple of mine. nice score on the cages too!! i breed my meat mutts between four and five months depending on their size and they get rebred at about six-eight weeks after having their litter. their is a really good article on motherearthnews.com, or whatever it's called, about tanning rabbit hides. doesn't seem to horribly complicated. i do rabbit colony for my rabbits cause for me it's easier. nothing wrong with cages though. i have some of those too cause there are times when they are needed around here.
