We finally got the addition on our coop finished to the point where we could fence off half of our original coop and run to accomodate our 8 week old babies while they get used to each other. Our plan is to remove the wire barrier in a couple of weeks. the babies' area is where the big girls favorite roosts are, but in order to split the run without making a third door, they had to go there. DH spent hours and hours making the old girls the new addition. It's 8x8, nice roosts, new egg boxes built into the wall, new food/water stations, lots and lots of floor space. It took awhile for them to come inside last night. They were understandably eyeballing the babies, and didn't wander too far into their new "room", I tried putting them on the new roosts, and they kept jumping down, so I left the light on for all and went to bed. This morning, I go to the coop to find 3 hens roosting above the door- of course they were mad and I got a plop on my arm in answer to my cheery good morning, 8 of them were squished onto about 3 feet of old perch that remained, and two, who very very miffed, were sitting on the trash can bawking at me. None of them used any of thier new space. Maybe they are just mad that we didn't paint yet, lol.
