In the Brooder
We picked up a mature Gold Laced Wyandotte last week. She laid an egg the next day and possibly the day after that (maybe have been another hens...not sure). Since then she had been mostly in the nesting box sitting on the egg. At one point there was another egg, again not sure if it was hers or not. Then one egg was gone and today she was in the box sitting but she wasn't even sitting on the one that was in there so I got rid of the box and made her get out. At this point I notice her comb and wattles are pale. Her tush had poop all over but I guess when they are sitting, they don't make the effort to get up and poop? And her poo smelled different (worse) which I read was a sign of broodiness so I just assumed she was broody. Also, since all of this broodiness has started, she has begun making a weird purring/gurgling noise. Which I read can mean happy/danger coming or it could be gapeworm. I did pick up some antibiotics today to give her tomorrow but I need something for the gapeworm. TSC was out.
I'm not sure how much she is eating/drinking. She has been quite easy to catch also, whereas when we first got her she always ran away. I soaked her in a warm bath for a while today (just in case she was eggbound since I haven't seen any eggs) and cleaned the poo from her tush. Vent looked normal.
Might she be broody? Molting? She seems tired and just wants to sit. She has not been roosting but I didn't think anything of it since she was broody but tonight the nesting box is gone and she is sleeping on the ground.
