thought chicken was eggbound but.....

I have a black sexlink that we thought was eggbound. She is not eating drinking won't move unless she has to and lets me hold her which is not typical. We seperated her and are syringe forcing water. I checked her vent up to my 1st knuckle and nothing. What else could be happening? I read a little about internal laying while researching eggbound is that a possibility and what can i do to help?

You may be correct about internal laying, since it is fairly common in hens who lay very well. There also could be an egg farther up in the oviduct. I would feel of her crop to check for crop impaction and normal emptying, feel of her breast area and keel for weight loss, check her lower belly for swelling or hard masses, and look her over for evidence of lice and mites. Add some chick electrolytes to her water, or give her Pedialyte or Gatorade. Offer her some chopped egg, or some raw egg mixed with a little yogurt. Keep us posted on what is happening.

She has always been a good layer. For the past couple of months we were getting soft shelled eggs and we thought eggs were getting eaten too because there is yolk on the other eggs. Thioe might have been her now that I'm thinking about it. I soaked her in warm water for about 15 min. Its been a few hrs since and now she won't lay down. I will try to get her to eat an egg and some Gatorade too. Thank you
