Well, I got too interested and hauled myself back to the store...White Chinese gander! So that had me in a bit of a pickle...I'd gotten used to the fact that we'd be having a goose around....and let that settle in and accepted it. I just wanted to know what kind. BUT I knew I didn't want a gander...sorry...I may just be stereotyping. In any event...I passed up on getting my Pekin and got an Embden (sexed) goose!

All's well that ends well I suppose! Variety is the spice of life, right?

In my opinion, I think you did the right thing in exchanging that Chinese gander for an Embden goose, especially if you've never had geese or never experienced what a Chinese gander can be like. For one, they're extremely loud and they are often very aggressive and moody when they get older, though individual experiences can vary. I actually like the Chinese geese, I find them very entertaining, but they are challenging to love sometimes. I think you will be much happier with the female embden. Plus, she might give you a few large eggs, too.

DesertDarlene - I agree with you completely! My ducklings welcomed this little girl with only a few little peckings (I have a Cayuga who's a little bossy) but they're already running around and all 3 of them are either playing or cuddling up together! The first gosling....it took a while longer for them to accept. So I think everybody involved is happier!

Now just need a name!

I paid $5 and some change for my "Pekin" gosling. LOL

AND they didn't make me pay the diff when I exchanged the gander for the goose! I'm fairly happy.

Yes, definitely go for a female, then you can spoil them as much as you want and they won't turn on you. Good luck with the little ones.

I did get a female...I had the man sex her right then and there..and got a sexing lesson in the process! I also found out it's not *entirely* true when they say that female Embdens are darker than their male counterparts! Who knew? My female (which I saw..*very* much a female) has, what I think, an extremely light gray frosting on top of her yellow at least on the body...her head is still quite dark. Anyway..she is spoiled rotten! They all are, but I think this daddy has a special place for this little girl. Already picking out her diaper/harness from ..oh..I forgot her name here...the member who sells them! LOL

The sexing lesson was great too...very thorough! I was able to come home that night and sex my two ducklings! I know for sure one of them is another little girl (my Rouen) although it was a little tougher with our older Cayuga, but from what I could tell..another female. She's also getting her "quack" about the time the females get it and it sounds very female. So we're very happy! Eggs galore hopefully!

We weren't too extremely worried with the ducklings, but were insistent on getting a female gosling...hence the making him sex her right then and there and from what I heard from other employees he's 100% all the time. Glad he wasn't there in the first place or else I never would have even considered getting a goose! Was definitely a "Happy" mistake!
