I did have an egg bound chicken years ago. Nightly epsom salt baths, quiet, warm and comfortable place to convalescence. She regained strength, wanted to return to coop and she's now 9 years old now, popping out big, beautiful eggs every other day. Fully recovered.
The current 3 yr old chicken in the "infirmary" (laundry room) has all the same appearances of being egg bound. Even inserted a gloved finger in vent to feel for the egg. I was sure I felt it. Have been soaking her in epsom salts, keeping the swollen butt dry and clean, she eats and drinks a little. A little wet poop daily. It's been over a week. Thought I understood they could only last about 48 hours egg bound. So, is there something else? Hubby says no to a vet visit, so I'm on my own. Thanks for any thoughts....

We have a chicken that's been egg bound for 3 weeks, nearly 4 at this point.
The only reason I found out she was egg bound was like she'd go in her nesting box to lay an egg and no egg was to be found, she did that for 3 days in a row. Went and felt her belly and there was for sure an egg there.

It's still there. ahahah (But it's not near her vent it's like by her leg)

We took her to the vet about a week ago, and they told us she's actually egg bound with 6 eggs, and that they've never seen anything like it before.
The only option we were given to fix it beyond what we have been doing is surgery, which we can't do.

Idk she still isn't acting like she's egg bound, she acts completely normal, she eats drinks and poops just fine.
Like you, I couldn't really find anything on it, only saw the "Will die within 48 hours" but....4 weeks is quite aways away from 2 days.

I had a chicken sick from being egg bound, we had to have her put to sleep she was so Ill. After an autopsy, the diagnoses was confirmed. This a terrible way for a chicken to die on it's own
