Thoughts about the Mexican dike.

Dennis, did you feel any of the shakes today? A couple of old ladies I used to know went to La Puente for a baptism. There was a doozy of a shake. Someone said that they should lay down in the shape of a cross. Sure enough, there was another shake, even worse than the first one. When they got up, they realized they were laying over the cesspool.

No, I only felt the big one last night at 9:09 PM.

I see they are having some earthquakes in Oklahoma now. Poor Okies can't get a break. First tornadoes, now earthquakes. What is next, dust bowl?

So far we don't know the extent of the damages. The country has had so many quakes that probably anything that will fall down has already done so. In the southern part of the country, there is a tradition brought over by the German settlers to build frame structures. They survive shakes better.

In the north, adobe and other forms of masonry are more common. It will be a while before the full extent of the damages will be known.

Hopefully, the Tsunami threat will be minimal. It will take several hours for the wave to travel to Hawaii and beyond.
