i just tried to incorperate my new buff orpington hen into my flock of four today and MMMMYYYYYY goodness was that rough! i know there is a pecking order that needs to be established, but my cockerrall jumped on her and when she tried to fight back my three pullets beat the snot out of her. i mean they were rolling on the ground, dust was flying, and the poor lil orpie was fighting for her dear life! haha, i know this is supposed to happen, but i dont think its supposed to be that bad. SO, i put some chicken wire down the center of the run and put the orp by herself on the one side. im thinking maybe if they can see eachother for a couple of days the introduction might not be as bad. plus i plan on selling my silkie cockerall and one pullet, so if theyre gone by the reintroduction, then at least she'll only get beat up by two chickens, not four.
my question is that since she doesnt have access to the coop, what household object can i use for shelter to make her more comfortable through the night? right now shes got a little cat carrier. i have two milk crates that i was thinking maybe i could stack on one another and throw a towel on the top, but im not sure.
any ideas? thanks
