Thoughts on pressure treated wood

Joel David,

I just noticed you live in Mesa. My daughter and I were just visiting Mesa in February. I have family in Mesa & Gilbert and friends in Chandler. I graduated from Mesa HS too a few decades ago

I had thought about contacting a few Mesa BYCers beforehand to visit while there but my DD (almost 18yrs) wouldn't stand for it

Actually, if we'd had more time I would have done it anyway but time was limited this visit. Maybe next year when we hopefully return I'll set up some BYC visits and SHE can go shopping

BTW, I don't think you would have to worry about too much PT wood leaching with the lack of rainfall there. It'll probably be completely dried out within a few months.

Here in Florida I use PT for anything that is going to be in ground contact or exposed to the weather. You folks in drier climates may be able to get away without it, but untreated wood rots mighty fast in our climate.

With the new PT wood you do want to be sure to use the right fasteners and fittings. It rusts nails and screws faster than the old stuff did.

.....Alan.
