I don't think it would work if they can see or hear the other ducks it will just make them frustrated and they will end up taking it out on each other.

What about 2 for each drake. I had 3 drakes once and one had 3 females the other 2 drakes just had 2 and it worked. Of course the females would slip around on their drake and the drakes would slip around on their females. Silly things.
All I can say is try it. Only problem i had with my set up was the drakes they couldn't be in the same area with each other Fighting was not pleasant. The girls never fared badly with that ratio but not all drakes are that way. Some are notorious for singling out just a few females and tearing them up. So if you do decided to try and it doesn't work then make your decision on re homing.
