Having read the threads about ducks and chickens I would like to post my own, slightly different version of a problem.
I have one big pen with 9 chickens and one 1year old goose in - the goose sleeps in her own box and the chickens in theirs
In a separate pen I have two 3 month old ducks and one 3 month old goose.
My chickens and goose are let out to roam every afternoon and always come back to roost
however I am afraid to let my ducks and baby goose out -
1 the problem of attacks by chickens 2 I have a Stream and pond that I know the ducks will love - not too far from the pen - but I am frightened they won't come back in at night
has anyone got any ideas
I so want to keep my ducks - I don't want to loose them
thanks
Trudi

About the only way your going to keep them out of the stream is to fence them in so they can't get into it, Ducks/geese love water and if there is any around they will find it. Chickens can be mean but at 3 months your ducks/goose should be able to stay clear of them. Does your older goose go into the pond or stream? if it does and it comes home to bed at night maybe it will teach your ducks and lil goose to follow it home.

Yes my other grown up goose is free to go where she wants - and always comes home at night - so maybe I'll give it a shot and let the ducks out - here's with my fingers and toes crossed they come home at night

Let us know how it goes. Hopefully they will follow the lead of your adult goose especially if they bond with her.
