Hi there, hope you are all well
My partner and I have been considering moving to a more rural/bush like area in the last 3 months.
His friend at work lives around the sort of area we are looking. He heard about our ideas of living within a more sustainable and self providing life style. He jumped right on board and offered us some chooks to get us 'started'. ahah He built us a coop from mesh for starting (with perch, shelter, water hanger etc) until we have moved to our ideal place and set up something more permanent.
I never thought I would be hugely interested in having chickens. I wanted something I could have a bond with etc. Boy was I surprised, are they ever so nosey and adventurous.
I let them out after morning feed (6am) at about 9am and they roam around our yard and garden beds until its time for some grain and back to their home.
They sit at the sliding door and flap up to watch inside from the window ledge.
Two are fairly happy with having a scratch under the chin, and ruffle of the feathers - which allows me to check them for lice and bugs etc.
Goldie loves my rings and will peck a hold of them and wiggle my finger around. Its rather amusing. I find them rather therapeutic and enjoyable to sit and watch.
I'm told this spring we should be expecting eggs. Its all very exciting
I'll be happy when I/we stop supporting the egg market. I had a glimps of what "free range" layed eggs actually meant. It wasnt pretty.
Here are our girls
Scratching around for something yummy.
Knock Knock..
Chicken little and Pinky sun bathing.
Goldie decided to join them.
Chicken little and Pinky having dirt bath. Boy was this cute.
Yes? Can I help you??
Nosey Nosey
You won't let us in, so we'll just sit here.
Thanx
Peace, Tezzie.
