We rotate our 11 hens in three yards in a 24 x 24 foot area. Each yard is 8 x 24. We grow rye grass and clover and they run out there and eat it down in a few days. They have a separate scratch yard to use when all front yards need a break. Each summer, we have to re-sow after a heat wave. We want to know what will be hardy, nutritious, and heat resistant for our NH climate. We close the yards and take the roof off before the winter snow. Are there herbs or other plants we can sew that can root deep and come back up in the spring?
