I am trying to find a type of bird to control the ticks at my in-laws. I was thinking about Guineas but they will be way too loud..... something a bit on the self-sufficient side would be nice, and a bird that would not attack the garden (they have a 1/4 acre garden). They used to have chickens but since they are both retired now and like to travel they would want critters that do not have to be penned every night.....

Suggestions??? I know SOMEBODY on here will have the answer.....

Thanks!

Guineas...unless you want all your plants eaten. My niece and nephew got guineas because the ticks are really bad in Northern New York. Now the kids can actually play outside.

Guineas, they would not have to be put up at night(although they may lose a few) and they could look after themselves mostly when the folks were on vacation. I also saw somewhere(maybe jeffers vet) where they have a predator for ticks now like the fly predators.

The thing with the Guineas is that they are so noisy; my MIL was complaining about the noise geese make (and I know they are not that loud....) so I do not think the Guineas would be well received....
