I just got 3 ducklings this week. I was planning to remove the leg bands today, but then realized I needed to do it pronto because one of the bands looked very tight on one duckling. When I got her band removed she was limping....I think this is because the band was too tight.

Any suggestions?? Should I just wait a couple days and see if things get better? Is there anything I can do to help her? Her energy level and appetite are good and she does move around, but just limps.

Thanks!! I'm new to ducks!!

Does it appear any circulation was cut off? Any swelling?

It looks a tiny bit swollen...I can't tell if her leg/foot is a different color or anything because she's black. She does seem to be putting more weight on it than a couple hours ago, seems like a good sign.

That appears to be a good sign. I would defiantly monitor the rest of the day and reevaluate the leg in the morning.

if they were from a hatchery and shipped with leg bands (spiral) they can become too tight too fast. The limping usually resolves in 2/3 days time. If the skin is broken open a little neosporin (no pain relief) is a good ointment.

Yes, they were shipped from a hatchery....I didn't even really need to differentiate between the genders...I wish they had used something a little easier to get off! No broken skin, thank goodness. Thanks for the info!
