Time between settings ?

My 2 Silkies have set on their eggs once each now. First one set on 7 saved eggs (from a friends chickens) and none hatched. She started setting April 16 and on May 11th I removed them to encourage her to begin eating and getting regular exercise again. 2nd Silky eggs are due to hatch June 9th. I dont know when to expect them to start setting for their next time.. Is there a certain time frame ?

their urge to set is caused by a rise in progesterone, and varies from bird to bird. I can only speak for my own silkies, but they typically set about a month, then off a month, and back on a month.

you can raise progesterone by adding sorghum to the feed. seed is best but liquid will work too. keep in mind it is bad for the hens to set to much. sorghum seed will also slightly raise the number of female chicks hatched.
