Thanks for all the comments. Bluerose, don't worry about the shed. It will be the coop but will also be connected to 200 square feet of a fully fenced in grassy area just to the outside of the shed. And by fully fenced in, I mean electric strands outside of the 6' chicken fence and the entire area will be covered with deer netting. I'm not about to lose a chicken to a raccoon or a hawk.

I inherited a large enclosed chicken coop on my property that I wanted to reuse as a small hay barn. It was gross and nasty and filthy.

I dug out the top layer of, um, compost, about a foot, and then I spent about an hour with a power washer.

When I was done it looked like a brand new building with brand new plywood. I put some gravel in the bottom, then pallets, and it's been a great hay barn.

Sounds like who ever owned that chicken coop last didn't clean it.
