Time of day they lay eggs?

I thought chickens usually laid eggs morning or early afternoon. One of my BO's finally started laying, and has laid 2 eggs in the past 4 days. She doesn't lay them until around 3 or 4 in the afternoon though. Is this normal or will she start laying them earlier? What time does everyone else collect their eggs?

I get eggs from about 7 am in the morning to 5pm or so. When I had a light on during the blizzard they layed at some of the strangest times. Most of mine lay around noon or later.

I usually collect my eggs right before I shut the door for the night.-when I am doing my other chores.

Hmm, one of my RIR's lay quite late, it dosen't happen too many times though.. Maybe she feels right to lay at that time, I think its fine for them to lay at that time. Don't worry..

For me , regardless of when a hen starts laying, each subsequent egg is layed a little later each day. Evantually a point will be reached where a day has to be skipped. For my game hens to set a clutch of 12 eggs, a period of about 14 days is required.

It takes over 24 hours (about 26 or so) to create an egg. The majority of the time - 19 hours or thereabouts - to encase the yolk and albumen in the shell.

Therefore, if a hen lays around 7 am one day, the next will likely be around 9 am. And continue to advance until it's "too late" for that day, and then it will finish up in the morning and the cycle begins anew.

Not all hens lay in the morning. However, the majority of eggs are laid between 10 am and 3 pm, as a general rule.
