Time out cage size

Can she stand fully upright, and turn around? Is there space for feed (we attach feed and water on the sides of the cage). We use a large wire cage we bought used. Make sure she can stay dry and is somewhat shaded too, if you live in a sunny/hot place. A feed bag cut open and zip tied to cage can help with shade.

What about a nesting box or area to lay an egg? Same situation here

A dog crate should work just fine, as long as there is room for food and water. If she can't go anywhere, she'll lay her egg in the crate. For myself, I have just put them in my old prefab, it's all set up ready for any need. In my experience, it's important that they can see the rest of the flock and vice versa. I tried once with a crate in my house, and it didn't change anything until I put her in the prefab. So I don't think size matters, it's more about the others seeing that she can't get to them. That gives them more confidence, and can shift the balance of power somewhat. It can take a day or two, or several weeks, depending on the individual involved. So set up something that is safe from predators, and you can maintain reasonably.

Oh ok thank you. I have a dog crate . But are they predator proof. We have skunks and raccoonsand an occasional fox as our biggest worry here in town. Maybe raising it up in a table next to they chicken run? I WISH I had a small prefab I COULD put right next to the big run
