It's time to move the chicks into the coop, but I still have a few details to finish. I have 20 Aus./B giants and I need to know how big to build the nest boxes. Any suggestions?

Heres how my nest boxes look. They are made out of marina grade wood and the tops slant so they want sleep on the nest boxes instead of there roost.

I was wondering more about the measurements since these birds are a little bigger.

14" x 14" x 12" deep is the size recomended for heavy breeds, according to "Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens" by Gail Damerow.

Hope this helps!

thanks Dawn. Does it matter how high up they are? I'm trying to leave as much floor space as possible.

I've got 12 red sussex chicks coming at the end of May. Would these be considered one of the larger laying breeds? I'm presently building a hen house and was wondering on the size of the nesting boxes too. My wall studs are 16 inches apart so it may be perfect for building boxes where i can collect from the outside.
