I need to thin out my roos

This is what I get from buying TSC chicks.....I have 7 roos and 19 hens in my newbie crew, 4 roos need to be dealt with.

I think I can manage with a 19 to 3 ratio.

I am thinking about taking the 4, which are a polish, buff brahama, partridge cochin, and silkie to my father in law's farm down the road. They would be the only chickens there and have full run of the place. While I know he would take care of them as far as feed and water, they wouldn't be babied the way they are here and they would be pretty much on their own (free range--they could roost in the barn). How would 4 roos do without any girls around?

GAAH it's so hard!

A bachelor flock with no hens around usually get along well. They will still have the pecking order issues but they should not have the mating fights. You are dealing with living animals so anything could happen, but I'd expect no big issues.

if your pops is going through the trouble of having chickens around, heck he might as well get some hens. and get some breakfast out of the deal...besides the 4 alarm clocks.

Okay my husband is taking them today.

I kissed them all goodbye and told them I would come visit them every night.....which I probably will

It is my prediction that they will all 4 end up back here

FIL lives less than 1/2 mile down the road

I had 3 roos before the flock I have now and thats all I had and they treated each other like brothers they get along fine. I have 9 roos and 9 hens they all get along most of the time except for a occasional scuffle.
