Okay finished the nesting boxes should I put timonthy grass in them or plan old wheat straw, my Rhode Island Reds are 16 weeks old Rooster same age,, no eggs no crowing What's Up?

Pine shaving work excellant...i would use whatever you use on the floor of the coop for the nest box...unless of coirse you have dirt or sand floors...that would be no good

Yeah I thought they were alittle young, just new to this and very excited. Thank You all very much will keep posted on how things come out, hopefully soon:)

I agree with the others sounds like they are a little young still I have RIR and they started at about 20 weeks almost on the dot....

When I do my boxes I put a light layer of pine shaving in the bottom and then a handful of straw.. I tried Timothy hay when I first started out and heehee my girls scratched it out and ate it..LOL they bend the straw into little nest.. it works well.. I also (personal preferance) sprinkle the food grade diatomaceous earth in each nest box.
